Doubling down is an additional bet placed of equal value to the initial bet on any first two cards dealt to the player. Player receives one card placed perdendicular to the initial two and can not take more cards.
Because the player receives only one card, the most common situations for doubleing down (based on 6-deck,dealer hits soft 17) are:
Double a 9 total when dealer shows 3-6
Double a 10 Total when dealer shows 2-9
Double a 11 total Always
Double A,2 and A,3 when dealer shows 5-6
Double A,4 and A,5 when dealer shows 4-6
Double A,6 when dealer shows 3-6
Double A,7 when dealer shows 2-6
Double A,8 only when dealer shows 6
Many(most) casinos allow a double-down after a split as well.
