Most industry outsiders suppose that the major motivation for engaging in this activity is player’s desire to win big. That’s what they think about traditional gambling and don’t make exceptions for online casinos. There’s hardly any doubt that the enjoyment you get from playing a casino game is often linked with the anticipation of winning some cash. As online gambling websites perfectly imitate the real-life gambling process, they likewise give you an opportunity to win. What they seem to forget is that playing at any casino is not a sure path to riches, so there must be more to it than simple lust for money.

Let’s assume that desire to win is just one of the reasons, but not a major one. There is an endless debate over the psychological motivation of online gamblers. Some insist that people start gambling for negative reasons, i.e. when they encounter some problems in life. Being halfway through divorce proceedings or having recently lost someone, people look for a way to put their minds at rest. In such situations visiting a good online casino tend to be an option, because a) you don’t need to appear in public places when all you want is to be left alone for a while and b) playing poker, roulette, blackjack, slots or any other game does distract the mind. So here is another reason for starting to play – need to be distracted from stressful thoughts.

However, I would argue that motivation can also be highly positive. Otherwise there wouldn’t be that many people simply enjoying their time at online casinos. There are different forms of gambling and each game attracts certain type of player. Games that require skill draw those who like to train their brain as they are rather challenging. For many of us, knowing that you are capable of overcoming a mental challenge is a serious motivating factor in life.

Those who prefer games that do not require skill are often more risky gamblers. They have no control over the outcome and thoroughly enjoy the incomparable thrill that short-term anticipation gives them. The best thing about most online casinos is that they offer opportunities to play free games. You can bet play money and enjoy the game unworried as you know that no real money is involved. So ‘test your luck’ factor is another reason to start gambling online.

There is also a group of people who start gambling to make a living. They are either professionals or those who want to believe they can play professionally. In fact there is a group of people who are quite well off and make a good living exclusively from gambling. I believe that such people are more likely to be found among players of various games of skill. They can learn and master the finest tricks and make a game their profession. Isn’t it nice logging on to your favourite online casino while everybody else is heading to work? Jokes apart, to become a poker professional you should learn a lot. This can be also done online and for free.

One day you may find an invitation to some online casino in your email. If you actually visit it, you will probably understand that the major reason why most people play is because it is fun.

Is it reasonable for me to start doubting that poker is down to skill?

Ive been playing poker for a while now and the more I play the more im starting to believe its more down to luck then skill. Simple fact is you won’t win unless you get the hands some time or another. Im not a tight player either I do my fair share of bluffing. Suppose im starting to get turned off poker. Anyone able to convince me otherwise?

I want to start card counting?

I am very interested in learning card counting, but wanted to see if it was really worth it. I wanted some feedback from players that use it currently and how well it works. I have Professional Blackjack and have not finished it yet. I am in the beginning stages of learning and again, wanted to know if given the current technology and casino tricks, if card counting still gives a player an advantage.
