Tucumcari – Jimmie Rodgers on The Jimmy Durante Show ( 1959 )

Tucumcari Mini Biography for Jimmie Rodgers Date of Birth – 18 September 1933, Camas, Washington, USA Birth Name – James Frederick Rodgers Smooth, folksy, honey-voiced singer Jimmie Rodgers’ career would never be the same after a December 1, 1967 altercation left him partially disabled. Remembered for a few singing hits of the late 50s and early 60s, Jimmie managed to prevail but at a much slower pace. He was born September 18, 1933 in Camas, Washington, a few months after beloved Country Music Hall of Fame singer Jimmie Rodgers (known as “The Singing Brakeman”) died of consumption. They were not related but perhaps Jimmie’s mother, a piano teacher who often played for silent movie houses, was inspired to name her son after the country legend as the same exact spelling of the first name occurred. His mother taught the musically-inclined Jimmie the piano and guitar. He formed bands and served at one time with the US Air Force. He later was discovered on Arthur Godfrey’s talent show and was signed by Roulette Records, an offshoot of RCA. In the late 50s, Jimmie’s easy folk-pop style and melodic renderings caught on fast. A wonderful alternative to the rock-and-roll, he found a #1 overnight hit with the song “Honeycomb” in 1957 and followed things up with a handful of “top 10″ singles including “Oh-Oh, I’m Falling in Love Again,” “Kisses Sweeter Than Wine,” “Secretly,” “Waltzing Matilda” and “Are You Really Mine.” Signed by Roulette Records, he severed ties with the record

A Roaring 20′s Peep Show on the Mutoscope, with a jukebox for music.

This video was on my dad’s channel originally.. It is a an early twentieth century peep show reel.. The machine is called a Mutoscope, and this is how people watched movies originally.. And it was expensive, as you could only watch a little, and then you would have to feed it another nickel.. From wiki: The Mutoscope was an early motion picture device, patented by Herman Casler on November 21, 1894. Like Thomas Edison’s Kinetoscope it did not project on a screen, and provided viewing to only one person at a time. Cheaper and simpler than the Kinetoscope, the system—marketed by the American Mutoscope Company (later the American Mutoscope and Biograph Company)—quickly dominated the coin-in-the-slot “peep-show” business. The Mutoscope worked on the same principle as the “flip book.” The individual image frames were conventional black-and-white, silver-based photographic prints on tough, flexible opaque cards. Rather than being bound into a booklet, the cards were attached to a circular core, rather like a huge Rolodex. A reel typically held about 850 cards, giving a viewing time of about a minute. The reel with cards attached had a total diameter of about ten inches (25 cm); the individual cards had dimensions of about 2-3/4″ x 1-7/8″ (7 cm x 4.75 cm). Mutoscopes were coin-operated. The patron viewed the cards through a single lens enclosed by a hood, similar to the viewing hood of a stereoscope. The cards were generally lit electrically, but the reel was driven by means of

Riverside Casino Iowa water show

A bit of the water fountain show at the Riverside Casino in Riverside, Iowa. This short video was just to test live uploading of video from my iPhone. In the center of the casino is a bar, and above the bar is this water fountain. The casino is pretty slick — plenty of water fountains and such all around it. And the slot machines are much nicer to me here than any other place I’ve played. I hope that continues. (I first visited this casino a few weekends earlier during TrekFest.)
