What exactly is a professional poker player?

I was talking with a new co-worker and she told me that her boyfriend is a professional poker player. I’ve never heard that before. Everyone that I know who plays poker does it once a week or once a month for fun. I asked her if he plays every day and she said yes. He’s 21 years old. I asked if he pays taxes on his winnings like employees do on wages and she said, “well, waitresses don’t claim all their tips.”

Can anyone give me an overview of a career as a professional poker player since I’m clueless? How do they find work? How much do they make? What are the possitives & negatives of such a career? Is it something someone can do their whole life?

Do live casinos ban professional small stakes gamblers?

Say for example that you play live in casino (x) for 4 months straight. Using whatever method you do, you make about $200/day playing house games like blackjack and craps.

My question is will the casino ban you if they see you consistently beating them at their own game at LOW stakes?

I know that if you play high stakes and beat them enough, they will ban you, but what about you just winning $200 a day from them month after month? Will they kick you out?

Trying out a new gambling scheme. Need some professional advice.?

SO heres the plan. I bet one dollar in a game like blackjack. If I win, I bet 1 dollar again, if I lose, I bet 2 dollars. It covers my original dollar, plus 1 to win. If I lose, i bet 4, covers 3, 1 to win. Keep doubling until I win. Then I go back down to 1 dollar. This way I slowly but surely win 1 dollar at a time. the only way to lose all of my money is to lose several times in a row. What I want to do is stat out with 256 dollars and try to double it. I did it with play money and it took about 3-4 hours. I hit 128 one time and 64 3 times. Never had to bet 256. Is there a term for this? Anyone have any information of success rates? Also can i expect an online casino to rig the game against me? I dont trust it. i’ve also done the same tactic with Roulette but havent fully tested it. I was successful in blackjack. 128 is a bit too close of a call though. Advice? I want to make this work.

How do I become a professional poker player?

If I wanted to become a ‘professional’ poker player, how would I start? Online tournaments? Local tournaments? Is there a place I can go to find more information? Or should I just take my 10k buy in to the main event and hope to make the final table (or at the very least, in the money). I guess I’m just trying to figure out if there is a place where I can gain more information about wanting to take poker seriously rather than just watching it on tv.

How does the general public perceive poker or professional poker players?

What do people generally link poker players with?
I am doing a university study on gambling(specifically poker) so anyone’s replies are appreciated. It seems to me that many people aren’t very enthusiastic about the notion of people playing poker for a living.

What do females and/or working males think about poker in general? Would you be weary of dating or befriending someone who plays poker? is it seen as ‘sleazy’ or in a negative light by alot of people?
what do you friends think?
thanks a lot for your input.

A question for professional blackjack players

If you are playing on a paticular table and you notice that the count stays pretty close to zero. Going up and down just a little. Wouldn’t it reason that even through a shuffle that that the cards would stay close to neutral the next game and you would be better off finding another table. Where there was a bigger swing, so you could place a larger bet? Has anyone noticed that that?

Are any Professional Gamblers at Casino Games ?

I think Poker is the most popular gambling game in terms of earning a living – the only other two I know of that people can do professionally or full time as a career is Sports Betting and Blackjack

Do you know of anyone who can be a pro gambler at other casino games or slots, and if so which games?

I dont think its possible but I’m curious if anyone knows of anybody doing it that has been successful?
