The Casino House Edge
Playing in online casino websites is all about betting and wagering real money. Thus, you would probably notice that so much money is just getting in and out of the players’ hands and in the casino, and you must be wondering how do the casinos make money when all the games are incorporated with luck in winning.
Do the casino websites just have to rely on sheer bad luck (and sometimes stubbornness and naivety) of the players just to profit? How would they finance their website employees, online ads, and maintenance? Do all of the money will just go from the losing players to the winners, only using the casino as a gaming and money transfer medium? Well, it’s probably not. In fact, when it comes to online casino gaming, only one thing is for sure: the casino is going to make money, regardless of the odds and probabilities of every casino game they offer.
House Edge in the Casinos
Looking at the casino games, there is one important factor which guarantees that the casino website will earn profits in the long period of play. This is the HOUSE EDGE. It is one of the most powerful source of income for the house. While every player is wagering in the casino games, the house will constantly take a small amount from every winning bet.
The house edge is defined as the difference between the actual odds in any wagers made and the payout odds given by the casino. The actual odds refers to the wager’s ratio of winning, such as the 5:1 (from 30:6) true odds of the Big Red (or Any 7) bet in craps for example (means there are 6 instances of winning and 30 instances of losing in 36 dice outcomes). The casino only pays 4:1 if the bet wins, taking 1 unit out of the total 6 units away as the house edge. Thus, instead of breaking even, there is a 1/6 difference taken from your total winnings, or a 16.67% house edge. This house edge also means that in the long run, the casino will take 16.67% amount of your bankroll for that particular bet made, not including your losses whenever you lost your bets.
The house edge in online casinos is a sure way of gaining significant profits, disregarding the numbers of the players that win or lose in a particular period of time. Every casino game is structured in a way that allows the casino to hold an advantage at every game. Most experienced gamblers know which bets to make and to avoid in the games, as well as which games offer better odds than others, referring to their corresponding house edges. And basically, majority of expert players agree to the point that those bets that have the lowest house edges are the best bets to make.
Of all casino games, the ones that contains the biggest house edges are the slots and keno games, in which the house edge can be as high as 25%. These games provide the players with the chance of winning a very large jackpot prize in just one shot, but it usually takes a very long time and pure luck for them to achieve this jackpot.
Texas Hold’em Poker and Leaving Yourself an Edge
Gone are the days where men and women meet in basements, garages, or around kitchen tables to play poker. Finding card rooms are easier than ever before because the game is garnering much attention on television promoting the game to higher levels. A player has many more options today as to where to play and which game to play.
Determining whether or not the game that you are considering playing is worth your time and effort is going to be an important factor in your game selection. Even though you may be chomping at the bit to play you want to be very careful not to choose the first game table that opens up.
Edge Makers to Look For
Playing poker just for the sake of playing is never a good idea. You will want to examine your capabilities and your skills in order to determine which game it is that you will have a reasonable advantage over your opponents. This is what is called leaving “yourself an edge”.
Examining the mental state of opponents is also going to give yourself an edge by allowing you to be able to read what is going on. By taking your time to analyze whether or not players are playing emotionally; signifying that they are giving up, if they looked tired, or if they do not seem to be very focused on the hand that they are playing you will be gaining another edge.
The Right Types of Games
The types of games that are available can be aggressive games or games where opponents are more passive and seem to be in a more relaxed state. It really all depends upon your strengths and weaknesses; therefore, you may be best served to examine one’s body language to determine who the less experienced players are. This is an edge that will certainly find you having a great time winning money playing the game.
When determining which types of games to play it is important to keep your ego in check. Sure everyone loves winning but keep in mind that the games that offer the biggest payoffs are often the games that have the best players for you to oppose. Utilizing common sense is going to be the key factor here.
Choosing the Right Table
Many times when players find that they have been winning quite a bit they feel as if they can take on any opponent that comes their way. Do whatever is necessary to pick the right people and do not just sit down at a table because it is there. Remembering to leave yourself an edge is something that is going to be very important if you choose to continue winning. Sitting down at a table where the stakes are extremely high with some of the toughest players in the world can be the quickest way to shoot down your confidence.
Always pick the table where you will have an edge so that you can progress your skills further without going broke. Getting in tune with your strengths and your weaknesses will allow you to find your edge and keep you winning the game.
Does the Casino have any House Edge in Double Down in Blackjack?
Every bet I think the house is favored or has some sort of an edge –
splitting favors the house, I know insurance and surrender do
but is doubling down the one bet that favors the player ? Im thinking no since they only give you one card and the odds of getting a 10 is only 31% on a one card draw. and the odds of getting 19 or better are only 46%
since 17, and 18 are losing hands technically Im thinking doubling down has a house edge somehow ?
especially since if you win 6 out of 10 but lose 4 out of 10 on the 4 your losing DOUBLE every time so doesnt that put you at a disadvantage?
Are there any table games where the house’s edge is as good as Craps and Blackjack?
