Does card counting have anything to do with a blackjack tournament?

It seems to me that it all boils down to just out betting your opponent(s). The reason why I’m asking is that on the ultimate black tour show the host mentioned that card counting has nothing to do with tournament play.

  1. put a card counter and a basic strategy player with the same bettign strategy next to eachother in tournaments, and the card counter will win more tournaments.

Tournament play is mostly about betting strategy, however card counters can play advanace playing strategy to give themselves better odds on playing decisions that basic strategy players are not aware of, the basic strategy player will not play out hands to the efficiency that a card counter will and will have higher odds of losing many hands because they have no information about the remaining cards left undealt.

Card counters will also be able to detect legitament winning expectations, typically players bet small amounts because they are expecting to lose money to the house, in the end most of the time, the player who loses the least money is the winner. A card counter will be able to detect when betting balls to the walls is the appropriate thing to do beacu he has the ability to playu with a winning expectation when the oportunity presents itself.
